Dear Anonymous,
This lovely man. Originally from Haiti and a US Citizen. He has a job at a local hotel, something to do with air conditioning and television repair of some sort, and has received Section 8 Housing but cannot find a place that will accept it and pass inspection, or this is my understanding from his description. He sleeps at the shelter. And goes to work each day.
Sit with that a moment.
He came over absolutely giddy with delight to thank Dear Anonymous, particularly for this reason. At Christmas Rev. Elizabeth Peterson donated, via a group she is involved with, a box of socks. Socks that were each stuffed with little candies...and a $5 bill.
I had seen him Christmas Eve morning and handed him one but he tucked it away thinking they were just socks. Winds up he needed socks yesterday and discovered the treats.
It was as if he won the big lottery.
Working full time. Sleeping in the shelter.
Today at least he has new socks and a coffee card. His smile was like the sun shining on me.
