Just 15 degrees F this morning. He arrived prepared to start the fire. He was already there and begun by 5:15 AM. Organized kindling. Started small; let it strengthen and then began adding splits of bigger kindling. And then bigger wood. Just like that.
How like the journey for so many at MaineWorks. Starting small, even when their pasts include corporate positions, or degree professions. Sometimes traction starts in sweeping floors at construction sites. And it can build from there. Like a fire needing to establish itself a bit slowly at the beginning, so that it will not be suffocated by the bigger timber headed its way.
Thank you, fire starter, for your patience. It paid off and warmed us in more than one way.
Lessons of the fire.
