All I had in my car was a dog blanket. I shook it out good and hard and he picked it up from the bench I put it on. His hands were shaking and I know it was from more than the cold. He stuffed the blanket into a garbage bag and with two hands held it up to his heart for just a second. My father. My brother. My son. My grandson.
I was dumbstruck again when I saw the ice crystals on the cabbage leaf.
