MaineWorks Circle: Storytime.
At a recent circle we mentioned that Maine Recovery Fund can assist with the practical obstacles to success in recovery. Like how? Like providing steel toed boots and coats to new employees. Like providing transportation to the job site. Without these a would be employee could easily be defeated and unable to work. A set up for the disaster of old habits.
What else can Maine Recovery Fund help with? We mentioned eye care....how can you work safely and competently without glasses if you need them?
Well, this lovely former nurse, Donna Hinds saw this gentleman flinch a bit at that circle. He didn't have glasses.Come to find out he needs them. He had even made an appointment recently but it was going to take weeks and he was prepared to pay out of pocket.
Instead at MaineWorks it was treated with a sense of urgency. He got a new appointment within a day and POOF he's wearing glasses today with the financial assistance of Maine Recovery Fund. Now, imagine. He is working as a construction carpenter...and had been WITHOUT GLASSES.
Ever wonder what this circle is all about? It's about this.Connection.Donna noticing Charlie. About treating the need with urgency and dignity. The man can see. Look at those smiles. Thank you Margo Walsh. Thank you Donna Hinds.
